Walkers are spoilt for choice with walks to suit everyone
starting from the doorstep; from a leisurely stroll to a hike
on Dartmoor. Most of our visitors take a keen interest in the local archaeology. Dartmoor is rich in prehistoric remains with the medieval settlements at Hound Tor and Grimspound being very good examples, and at Haytor the granite tramway is still clearly visible. Guests also enjoy the many legends and folklore for which Dartmoor is renowned Jay's grave, the hairy hands of Hexworthy, and the Hounds of the Baskervilles.... Places to visit include the National Trust properties at Castle Drogo, Buckland Abbey once the home of Sir Francis Drake, Lydford Gorge and Saltram House. Other popular attractions are Buckfast Abbey a living Benedictine monastry, the Dart Valley Steam Railway which follows the river Dart to Totnes, Becky Falls, Miniature Pony Centre, Pennywell Farm, River Dart Country Park and Woodland Leisure Park.
